I've just finished Wifedom and now pondering my next book - so thanks I have it sorted as I too have not jumped onto the Ferrante hype and this is my sign to do so. Your retreat sounds wonderful! Best wishes
I loved this series. I listened to the audio books after my mother died and it was soothing somehow, life affirming, raw, gorgeous. I should probably reread them on paper one day.
I discovered “My brilliant Friend” through a book club and really loved it. I immediately rushed to the library to get the next three books and found myself totally immerse in the lives of the two girls. Sadly no one else in my book club felt the same and the only friend I could discuss the books, characters and the writing style was a friend in Canada. So discussions were long distance.
Oh isn’t that interesting! I’m glad I tried again, there’s such depth in the stories, and I’ve loved all my explorations into the background of it all Naples has such interesting history I hat no idea about. Listen to the London Book Review Bookshop podcast on MBF and you will feel v much a part of the discussion. Have you read any of her other books?
Yes, well it’s funny cos i really didn’t like the writing when I started. Just finished Days of Abandonment and was going to chuck it too about a third of the way in, it was so bleak and negative, but then she pushed that to an extreme and it became really interesting and I couldn’t stop reading! Be interested to hear what you think!
Yay, isn’t it exciting! There’s a great film I just saw today in the Italian Film Festival, on nationally, called Ode to Naples. Recommended by another writer who will join us in May! Google to find cinema near you!

No the Naples series are the only Elana Ferrante novels I’ve read but I’ll look up some others one day
I’ve been meaning to try Ferrante for ages but I keep putting it off. I will take this post as a sign to finally start (soon!).

I had heard they can be hard to get into. But once you’re in, you’re all in!
Thank you for reminding me how much I loved these books. I inhaled them all a few years ago. Great to see the HBO series on SBS.
Just started down the EF rabbit hole too, getting ready for the retreat. Can’t wait to catch up again ❤️
