I really love how you included Marj's poetry in you writing. Also like the combo of Duras, Mekong and Marj in the title

I’m loving the addition of your mother’s poetry! Weaving this all together in my mind now. And what a wonderful final statement: I tear the empty page from my notebook and chuck it in. It’s a symbolic gesture I know, but I need help in this life not the next.

This is beautiful Jan. So evocative of scene and place and tender with memories: the loss of your mother - from Jakarta, how sad. But how we share the beloved glimpses. The ongoing search for MD against the water colour scenes of Vietnam.

Thanks Sue, yes it was strange mourning her death from afar, but going to the klenteng did help! In Venice now, can’t say I enjoyed the trip to get here but thankful that I arrived!!

A lovely chapter Jan. Mixing past and present lives with humour, curiosity and sensitivity. Keep 'em coming. (A few typos/repetitions around mid chapter)

Your Venice residence looks fab too!
