A brave share and exposure.

(And no, I have to disagree. A late MA is not a sign of academic lateness or fakery. IMHO, the award is an acknowledgement of knowledge and talents based on a richly layered bedrock in “mature-age” students.)

Sometimes for me in this format It is challenging to process the balance between the personal and external journeys. I read your explanation about the chapters here. At times here and in the previous I have missed a clear line through the various elements MC, MD, JC and the physical journey itself. Or is that also your deliberate choice?

Thanks Susan, Imposter syndrome is always allve and well hehe! Thanks for your comment, will think on that. Deliberate choice? Well, it's all an experiment, following the inspiration of MD's use of discontinuous narrative in The Lover.

Yes. Imposter syndrome. Speaking also there to myself.

Funny you should ask about the mix of tourist/journey bits with Marj and MD bits for this chapter ... I’ve enjoyed the mix and expected it as the story is about your journey in search of MD and finding your mother. I would have liked more of your journey in here at the end of the chapter.

Thanks Maureen, oh good. Ah yes, the next bit in the MS after the last para of Chap 13, does take us back to the journey, but it will be the opening to Chap 14. In the book I don't have chapters, just the five sections but I've broken it up into chapters for presenting it on Substack.

Wow. Yes to weaving in and out of your travelogue and MD and MC’s lives. Such sadness, desperation and rage in these storylines, but I also get the sense that without the strife, the creative impulses would also be diminished. Your “putrid vegetable” mom may’ve had a flair for the dramatic (and comic) but boy that must’ve been hard to hear, let alone understand.
