Oh this is so beautiful and I can't wait to read the next.

This piece really got me, because I can FEEL the discomfort in my own skin: "‘La bibliothéque est fermé,’ she says in a stern and unfriendly voice. Is it stern? Or is that just my imagination? She could have said, ‘ I’m sorry, the library is closed today.’ I’m taken aback and can’t even stutter out a ‘merci.’ Not that she requires a response."

The simple humiliations we experience all too often in situations like this is enough to make us all cringe! 🙈

Thanks Miriam, we've all been there yes? Always so satisfying to write these moments, somehow it takes the sting out! Cheers, Jan.

Oh! Another one! I’m still catching up so I’ll restrain from reading bc I’m so enjoying the chronological dive.

I'm the same with yours Kimberly, though I did read your most recent letter to Charlie out of sync which I loved. Had a session with Sarah Fay and she gave me the good oil about removing the memoir title and the word chapter from each post which you have done so elegantly. I'm not sure as most of my people read on email and I'm worried if I don't have the memoir title they won't know what it is. But will change it up in my archives I think.

Sarah Fay’s tips were so helpful! I’m glad you connected with her. Like you, a lot of my readers are via email but no one seemed to mind when I changed it up.

I wrote a lengthy comment but it got lost in the Substack sign-in process. Suffice to say it was a recognition of the arrogance of, particularly, a certain type of Parisienne woman. Still enjoying the journey even if, this time a bit light on for enlightenment.

Thanks Richard, sorry to hear, but maybe it was the universe protecting you hehe. Appreciate your comment on enlightenment, as yes I'm worried the PP section needs a bit more of that, will have a serious look..
